I started on The Cricket more then a year ago, at first
it was only going to be used by me, then I decided to share it with anyone
who wanted to try it. The Cricket was a simple idea, made from the desktop
out to the simple accessories I have made and provided. The original idea
was to have one large executable run the entire Cricket interface, that's
when I realized it would slow down the Windows operating system (OS). I decided
to go with an easier approach, make each section of The Cricket separate.
This meant I would have to rethink how to design The Cricket, and which sections
should be separated.
The Cricket was designed around speeding up the Windows
OS, by having less stress on one certain executable, like the Windows Explorer.
I have only tested this with a few executables that I had to wait for to load.
Luckily I succeeded in my goal, I have cut my waiting time in half, now I
think that's pretty good. The testing was done using Microsoft Office 2000,
with everything I usually have running on my system that ended up taking a
while to do anything.
If you have any tests you have run, or would like to
tell me about your experience with The Cricket please feel free to email
me at cricket98@netzero.net.
